(The Wild History Of The Texas Longhorn by:Mark Mancini)
What a differnce a century makes. Today the Texas Longhorn Cattle are celebrated as rugged icons of the American Southwest...But did you know a litte more than a 100 years ago these big beasts had an image problem?
During the era of open ranges and long cattle drives longhorn cattle thrived, yet as industrialization took place they fell out of favor and were heading towards extinction but was saved by organized conservation efforts, the old wesdt nostalgia gave them a big boost.
In 2013 a genetic study found that Texas Longhorns are a descendent from ancient lineages of from Middle Eastern and Indian cattle. These two came into contact in North Africa resulting in a hybrid that came into Southwestern Europe.
In 1493, during his journey, Christopher Columbus brought along several mixed breed bulls and cows that he aquired from the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco. These domestic bovine were introduced to the Caribbean and to the New World.Other Spanish travelers came into the region with cattle from the same stock, and in 1521 these cattle spread out into mainland Mexico and as The Spanish colonized the present day Colombia, Venezuela, and Texas, they brought along with them their livestock that we now know as The Texas Longhorn.
Welcome to Triple F Ranch.
We are Chris and Heather Fischer. We are located in East Texas in the small-town community of Slocum.
This is our story: We are family operated ranch. We started with a small herd in 2013 with a few Texas Longhorns that we purchased from friends and it very quickly became a passion. We loved them so much that we gave up our commercial cattle business and put all of our time and energy into The Texas Longhorns. We continue to focus on breeding a beautiful healthy herd that is hand raised. Our main goal is to produce quality cattle with great color, confirmation, disposition, and good solid horn growth while maintaining a solid genetic foundation. We devote a great deal of time in the pasture with our animals and love sharing this with others. We continue to learn new things daily about these beautiful animals and will always have an open door (pasture) policy. Our biggest joy is sharing with our children and grandchildren. There truly isn’t anything more rewarding or enjoyable than seeing the excitement from the grandchildren & our friends children when they are able to run and play in the pasture with the Longhorns or get excited from feeding our calves. I hope you enjoy our herd, if you need any further information or have any questions please contact us.
